The Pi Network community knows that from last June 28 and all the way to the August 10th the Pi hackathon is going on with the title #BuildPi2gether. The event emphases on the development of apps and utilities over the Pi Network.
The main goal of the event is to empower and inspire developers to develop real-world usage applications and utilities for Pi community over Pi Network blockchain. With the same intention in mind, today, Pi Network introduced Pi App Engine.
Here is how the Pi Core team introduced the Pi App Engine through the video posted on YouTube and on their Pi app:
So, what is Pi App Engine?
Pi App Engine is a cloud computing platform as a service for developing and deploying Pi apps on Pi-Core-Team-managed cloud servers. With open-source technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, applications are sandboxed and operate across numerous servers.
The app engine can be used in development mode by any verified developer. The app will be hosted on production mode for free after it is complete and selected based on Core Team criteria.

The difference between Development mode and Production mode is that Development mode can only support a few test users and is intended for testing and developing new programs, whereas Production mode may support tens of millions of users while deploying on thousands of CPUs.
The Pi core team reminded us to watch the workshop videos on the home screen of Pi app or on YouTube. If you’re a developer or simply a Pi enthusiast, watch the below video by Lyriaaw who discusses how to start constructing an app via the Pi Developer Portal in today’s Hackathon workshop.
Similarly, Hugo also a member of Pi core team shows how to leverage the App Engine to get into Core Team’s server infrastructure when developing an app.
